Jean Valery is a Ghent-based artist who effortlessly fuses rock, alternative rap and energetic production. Inspired by artists such as Dominic Fike, Paris Texas and Gorillaz, he mixes hard instrumentals with introspective lyrics. After making a name for himself as one half of the hip-hop duo blackwave., he is breaking new ground as a solo artist, with a raw and unfiltered sound brimming with emotion and energy. His music revolves around themes of ambition, self-discovery and personal growth. On 14 February, he released his debut album ABOUT DAMN TIME!, produced by Tobie Speleman, Fabian Van Doorslaer and Dries Henderickx-who are also part of his four-member live band. Live, Jean Valery brings an intense, compelling show that does full justice to his rock influences. His debut album showcases his new sound, with tracks like DRIVE ME CRAZY, which spent no less than 14 weeks in the De Afrekening. Besides his solo work, he remains active as one half of blackwave., which is known for their jazzy hip-hop and gained national fame with tracks like Elusive, Bittersweet Baby and a-okay. With their 9-piece live band, they played at major festivals such as Rock Werchter, Pukkelpop and Pinkpop, building a reputation as one of Belgium's strongest live acts.
